She crossed a road

Anirban Chanda

She crossed a road

twilight sky, crimsoned eyes
pale windscreen of public vehicles
smokes shimmering

she crossed a road

old streetlights winking, thronged roadsides
no one knows their names, unknown coordinates
of a house named home

she crossed that road

skyscrapers jostling by, busy men
all lookalikes, all dead, hitting dead end
of clumsy supermarkets, wicked smile adorned

she crossed the road and another and another...

far from her, I could feel –
she is light
